Algunos de los verbos más comunes en pasado simple son: be (was/were), have (had), do (did), say (said), go (went).

La forma negativa del pasado simple se construye añadiendo la palabra didn’t (contracción de did not) antes del infinitivo del verbo. Por ejemplo:

  • I didn’t work yesterday.
  • You didn’t see that film.
  • He didn’t go out last night.
  • We didn’t have dinner together.
  • They didn’t arrive on time.

  • Did you work yesterday?
  • Did he arrive on time?
  • Did they have dinner together?

Para hacer preguntas en pasado simple con verbos irregulares, hay que tener en cuenta que la forma interrogativa se construye poniendo la forma base del verbo (work –> did work, arrive –> did arrive, have –> did have) delante del sujeto. Por ejemplo:

  • Did he work yesterday?
  • Did they arrive on time?
  • Did we have dinner together?

  • Didn’t you work yesterday?
  • Didn’t he arrive on time?
  • Didn’t they have dinner together?
